Following a cobbled laneway, just wide enough for a small vehicle, hidden from view and surrounded by gently swaying coconut trees and tropical forest, lies a wonderful new Retreat, Pondok Cocoa.
The village of Kedewatan is only a short drive from the centre of Ubud. However, time seems to stand still here, almost a return to the Bali of the ‘old days’. Traditional village life still exists where everyone has a welcoming smile. Children on their way to school, roosters crowing in the early morning, faint sounds of the gamelan rehearsal and wind chimes tinkling in the breeze, interrupted by the occasional scooter, are the only sounds to be heard in the lush landscape around Pondok Cocoa. Yet the shops, restaurants, bars and art galleries of Ubud are only a short 10 minute taxi journey away. This secluded lane in Kedewatan is the perfect place for a Retreat.
Pondok Cocoa has been created by a local Darwin couple to offer a beautiful, eco-friendly, learning-based facility with multiple uses. This aspect alone makes Pondok Cocoa one of the most unique venues of its kind in Bali. Local craftsmen and women from Kedewatan and surrounding villages have worked together, alongside the couple to create a beautiful, elegant, serene and very private environment.
All staff employed at PC are local to the area and take great pride in looking after their guests’ every need, including daily cooked breakfast and housekeeping. Additional meals are by arrangement. Wi-Fi is also available.
Accommodation consists of 10 ensuite bedrooms, offering cool tiled floors, ceiling fans, marble garden bathrooms and beautiful modern furnishings locally crafted especially for Pondok Cocoa.
Two large open-air Pavilions have been designed for group dining or learning activities and showcase the traditional building style, using alang-alang fibre and bamboo, complemented by luxurious marble floors. Also available is an air-conditioned learning and entertainment room and 3 spa rooms offer guests the perfect complement to their stay. The central feature of the retreat is a marble-tiled swimming pool. Surrounding the inner sanctum of the retreat are beautiful Bali-inspired gardens.
Pondok Cocoa is the perfect place to host a family reunion or get together, a venue to take staff or clients for a short stay or small conference.
For educationalists it provides the perfect opportunity for learning in a peaceful natural environment, whether it is language, music, art or cooking.
Fitness, weight loss, wellness and yoga all form part of the endless possibilities for groups wishing to experience some time away from the hustle and bustle of busy lives.
A place so beautiful and private usually comes with a costly nightly tariff. Pondok Cocoa is about the experience, the learning or wellness and providing a wonderful facility at a surprisingly affordable cost for all guests.
